Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone is hoping he can clinch a loan return to Italy with Parma.

Maccarone appears primed to leave The Riverside Stadium before the close of the transfer window after slipping out of Steve McClaren's plans.

He has been linked with several clubs in his homeland, with Fiorentina and Lazio both purportedly keen to sign Boro's record signing on loan.

But Parma have been the latest club to register their interest and Maccarone is awaiting developments regarding a switch to Ennio Tardini.

"It would appeal to me to go there," said Maccarone.

"I am waiting for developments but I haven't heard anything concrete yet."

Meanwhile, Boro midfielder Ray Parlour is looking forward to the club's Uefa Cup challenge and feels the experience of several of his new team-mates will help the side in Europe.

Parlour said: "The Uefa Cup is very exciting and the club have waited a long time. It will be a great experience for the club and supporters.

"Many of us here have played in Europe for other clubs which is good.

"You need that experience if you are going to try and go a long way in the competition."
