Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a double injury blow by the news that loan pair David Lucas and Mark Wilson will both miss the rest of the season with knee damage.

The duo both suffered medial knee ligament damage in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Port Vale.

The news will come as a particular blow to Lucas, who looked set for a permanent switch to Hillsborough from First Division side Preston North End.

Midfielder Wilson was only playing his third match on loan from Premiership side Middlesbrough but he too looks likely to be sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

"They have both sustained medial ligament damage - exactly the same injury," Turner told Wednesday's official website.

"The initial reaction is that they'll struggle to play again this season, if it is as bad as our first fears."

Lucas's injury will also be a concern to Lilywhites boss Craig Brown, who saw number one Jonathan Gould pick up an injury in their 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, leaving youngster Andy Lonergan as the only fit keeper presently at Deepdale.

Preston have also lost midfielder Dickson Etuhu for up to six weeks after he injured ankle ligaments when he fell awkwardly in the win against The Baggies.

X-rays have fortunately ruled out any break in the player's joint but his loss will be another blow to the First Division promotion-chasers.
