MIDDLESBROUGH goalkeeper Mark Crossley has emerged as a target for Fulham ahead of the impending departure of Maik Taylor.

The Northern Ireland international is expected to ink a deal to join Birmingham City on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.

Taylor's exit from Loftus Road will leave Fulham manager Chris Coleman scouring for back-up to Edwin van der Sar.

Veteran shot-stopper Crossley was ironically a target for Birmingham but Blues could not thrash out a deal with Middlesbrough.

Blues were reluctant to meet Boro's asking price in the region of £750,000 and that ultimately prompted St Andrews boss Steve Bruce to turn his attentions elsewhere.

His Fulham counterpart Coleman will be hoping he can persuade Boro to lower their demands to ensure he does not start his first season in charge devoid of experienced goalkeeping cover.
