BIRMINGHAM CITY have insisted they will not be held to ransom over the capture of Mark Crossley.

The 34-year-old is reportedly the number one choice of Steve Bruce to fill the goalkeeping position that has been his priority for much of the summer, but Middlesbrough`s reported asking price of £750,000 is putting off the St Andrews paymasters.

Birmingham supremo David Gold, commenting on Boro`s reported asking price, said: "£350,000 is a more realistic price."

Crossley is eager to secure regular first-team football, something he is unlikely to achieve at The Riverside, in order to increase his chances of playing for Wales as they close on a place at next year`s European Championships.

Former club Forest have also been interested, but Crossley could be heading to Birmingham if the two clubs can agree on a compromise.
