MASSIMO MACCARONE has admitted that he is not shocked by his latest omission from the Italian squad.

The Middlesbrough ace was named in a provisional squad by coach Giovanni Trapattoni, as he has been for every Italy game since his move to Teesside - but he is yet to earn a place in the final selection.

Chievo Verona's Massimo Marazzina was preferred to the Boro sensation, but the former Empoli man remains unfazed by his failure to get in to the full squad.

"Obviously other strikers have more experience than me at the moment," said Maccarone.

"But I can change that, I have to continue to do well for Middlesbrough and then I can make myself appreciated."

Maccarone won his one and only Italian cap last season when coming on as a second-half substitute against England at Elland Road, just 24 hours after starring for the Under-21s.
