MIDDLESBROUGH have unveiled new signings George Boateng and Geremi.

Boro sealed the £5 million signing of Boateng on Monday, whilst Geremi was introduced to the media for the first time since his arrival from Real Madrid.

Manager Steve McClaren was delighted to have sealed the sigings of both players.

"The number one reason I signed them was because they are quality and are damn good football players," said McClaren.

"They are both strong, mobile, quick and great additions to our squad."

McClaren admitted that his team building plans were now nearly complete, after also revealing that the deal for Juninho had been finalised.

"It is very nearly complete. We have worked very hard during the summer. We all appreciate the work that has been done by both Steve Gibson [chairman] and Keith Lamb [chief executive].

"Juninho is done and tied up, we will have another press conference on that to unveil him.

"We have been putting our house in order, putting our squad together and we needed to lay the foundations.

"From those foundations we needed to add quality and that is why we have gone out and added to that.

"I have chased George since the end of last season, since I saw on Sky that he was transfer-listed, we were interested straight away and I came across Geremi when I was at Manchester United and he always impressed me with Real."

Boateng revealed that McClaren was the main reason behind him joining on a four-year contract.

"The reason is sitting next to me [referring to McClaren], the situation at Villa was not very good and the possibility to come here and knowing that the manger was working hard to get me was a wonderful feeling.

"When you look at the midfield here and at Villa, it is easy to see why I made this move.

"We should not be jumping out of our seats at the moment, I have been in the Premier League for quite some time, but it will make things easier with the players we have.

"I think I have made a very good choice and it's great for me and Middlesbrough.

"These past two days I have seen the hunger for success come to again. I want achieve, I didn't come here just to make up the numbers."

Geremi revealed that the offer of first team football on Teesside was a big draw for him

."In Madrid I did not play a lot and that is why I decided to play in the Premier League," he said.

"I spoke with him [McClaren] and he wants to build a great team and that is why he signed me.

"We have to prove on the field we are a good team and we have to work hard.

"I knew about Job and Karembeu, so I did know about Middlesbrough - I have always followed them because of the Premier League."

On Geremi, McClaren confirmed that the club have first option to buy him at the end of the season.

"We have an option to take him on at the end of the year," he added and then confirmed that he wants to sign former Everton winger Jesper Blomqvist.

"I want to bring him here, a lot depends on how his injury goes," McClaren continued.

"He was with us last week, but he has been at home getting treatment. We will have another look at it and take things from there."
