FRANCOIS GRENET has revealed that he will be staying at Bordeaux, after his proposed move to Middlesbrough failed to materialise.

The right back made clear his desire to leave Girondins at the end of the season, but he has now had a change of heart and decided stay.

"I saw the coach and the chairman on Thursday to tell them my decision," said Grenet.

"I saw no improvement so I decided to bring everything to a close once and for all.

"During the last days, I saw the negotiations with Middlesbrough fall through, it was really too vague.

"So I start again for one season in Bordeaux without any regret.

"I wanted to experience another league but my priority remained to find a club with high ambitions.

"Middlesbrough was the largest approach I had, but this departure would not have gone through in good conditions.

"I do not consider staying here a failure. Bordeaux are the most consistent French side of the last four or five seasons.

"Now it will be necessary for me to work hard and get my place back on the right flank."

Middlesbrough still had hopes of securing a deal for the French B international, but it now seems that manager Steve McClaren will have to turn his attentions elsewhere, and Millwall`s Lucas Neill could very well be an option.
