Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists the current team are not failing despite not winning any silverware this season.
City put six goals past QPR on Super Sunday to mathematically assure qualification for the Champions League, but last season’s title winners have fallen short on all four trophy fronts.
Despite criticism of a lack of progression under Pellegrini, the Chilean says the club must continue with the current personality and desire.
Pellegrini told Sky Sports: “I don't think we need a revolution, last year we won two titles. I never can accept that this team is failing, because I don't think it is easy to win the title in the Premier League.
“It is important to continue with this period, personality and desire. This year we lost many, many points, especially at home against not so strong teams.
“It's not easy for any team to win titles in a row because you have five very strong teams which have the same powerful squads and the same money to spend.”
City relegated QPR with the thumping 6-0 win at the Etihad Stadium, helped by a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero, who is currently leading the Premier League scoring charts with 25 goals.
Pellegrini insists the Argentine striker has improved his work-rate, and is wanting the ball more.
“For Kun [Aguero] it is very important for him to score, he wants to win the top scorer for the season.
“But also the way Kun is playing, he is working more, moving more and receiving more balls.
“I am very pleased because we play a complete game, not only because we score six goals, but also we keep a clean sheet against a team that take risks to try to play with two strikers.”
City were joint top of the table in January but then fell away badly and were unable to maintain a strong challenge to new champions Chelsea.
But Pellegrini said: "You can never say that for one player that you can be closer or not close.
"It is very important for the players to be fit for whole season but I don't think because Kun was injured for some games we are not near Chelsea. I think there are a lot more reasons for that."
Aguero put City on their way to their fourth successive win with the opening goal after just four minutes. Aleksandar Kolarov, James Milner and David Silva also struck in a one-sided game that condemned QPR to the drop.
Pellegrini said: "We don't change our style. It is important to be a scoring team, not just to score one goal and try to keep the result. We never change that philosophy of football.
"That is why I am happy, not only for the six goals, but because we were a balanced team and played with a lot of spirit to win against a team that took a lot of risks because they needed to win."
Rumours were rife ahead of the game that Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola had verbally agreed a deal to take charge at City, but they lacked substance and were given no credence by the club.
Pellegrini claimed to have no knowledge of them.
"I didn't read or hear any reports, and nobody told me," said the South American.
