Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has no interest in records as he bids to maintain the champions' winning momentum.

A 3-1 win over West Brom on Boxing Day saw last season’s champions equal a club record of nine consecutive victories in all competitions.

City recorded nine straight wins in 1910 before repeating the feat in 2011, but Pellegrini has no interest whatsoever in statistics.

“Really I am not aware of the records,” the Chilean said.

“We just want to continue adding points because it will be a very close fight for the title this year and we want to keep our title."

Former Real Madrid boss Pellegrini spent almost a decade managing in La Liga before taking the reins at City prior to the start of last season.

With no football in Spain over Christmas and New Year, Pellegrini admits he is still getting used to playing matches over the festive period as City prepare to host Burnley on Sunday.

"This is very rare for me,” he said. “Before 72 hours it is not good to play (again) but we know how it is here, in the Premier League. It is difficult for all the teams.

"The important thing is not to have an advantage for any one team."

Burnley slipped to their third defeat in four matches after losing 1-0 to Liverpool on Boxing Day but Pellegrini insists he is taking nothing for granted against Sean Dyche’s men.

"I have watched some games that they have played and I think they are playing well,” he said. “I watched their game against Tottenham away.

"They are an offensive team, they play with two strikers and I think they have good players. If you think it is an easy game, you can have great problems.

"So we hope we will play against Burnley the same way we play against any other team."
