Pablo Zabaleta has praised the work-ethic of Manchester City loanee Frank Lampard who, according to the Argentine, is 'still training like a teenager'.

The former Chelsea midfielder, now 36, scored his 174th Premier League goal on Sunday as City produced arguably their best performance of the season in beating high-flying Southampton 3-0.

Lampard is scheduled to join New York City in January, having signed for the MLS team when he departed Chelea last summer.

However, Manchester City are keen for him to remain at the Etihad Stadium and Zabaleta is delighted with his team-mate’s contribution.

"For me, what makes Frank Lampard special is how professional he is in training," he said.

"You see him at training: He is the first to arrive on the training ground and the last to go home.

"He won everything with Chelsea, he's a legend in football and he's still playing like he's 18 years old."

Regarding the win at St Mary’s, Zabaleta added: "Frank was great but I also think the whole team were fantastic on Sunday.

"We were very solid at the back and we defended very well.

"Obviously we made the difference at the end with the great finishes by Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy so I am proud of the team because those three points are very well deserved.”
