Sergio Aguero hopes there are plenty more goals to come after smashing four past Tottenham to become Manchester City's record Premier League scorer.

The Argentine netted all of City’s goals in their 4-1 defeat of Tottenham at the Etihad on Saturday to keep Manuel Pellegrini’s men second in the table.

Aguero's haul took him to 61 in the competition, three past Carlos Tevez's mark of 58 for the club, with 85 in 132 City appearances overall.

The 26-year-old forward admitted he was delighted to break his compatriot’s record but said the most important thing was for the team to get the win.

"I am very happy to be part of the history of this club and I hope I can continue scoring goals," said Aguero.

"But the most important thing is City can win games with my goals.

"I was very happy with my performance but the most important thing is we got the three points."

Aguero opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a crisp drive past Hugo Lloris and restored City’s advantage from the penalty spot seven minutes later after Spurs had equalised through Christian Eriksen.

He had a penalty saved in the second half before City were awarded a third, which he converted, and he rounded off the scoring on 75 minutes when he cut in from the right and powered a low left-footed strike past Lloris.

Joe Hart paid tribute to Aguero after the game, acknowledging the forward was the difference between the two teams.

Hart said: "It was an exciting game - two exciting teams and luckily we got the better in the attacking stakes.

"They played well, they attacked well, and they are quite similar to us in their style of play.

"But Kun (Aguero) was amazing with the goals he scored and could have got more."
