Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola felt his side deserved their victory against Manchester City thanks to Jerome Boateng's late strike.
The defender pilfered a last-gasp 1-0 Champions League Group E win over his former club in Munich courtesy of a shot which deflected off team-mate Mario Gotze and past Joe Hart.
City, who had come back from two goals down to beat Bayern 3-2 in Munich in the group stage last year, were largely on the backfoot but successfully kept the Germans at bay, with keeper Hart making several crucial saves, until the last minute.
The Bayern boss told Sky Sports 5HD: "They played better for the first 20 minutes and we played better for the rest of the game.
"We deserved this victory. In the second half we played at a very high level.
"We can't forget against which team we played tonight and I'm happy with the rest because it is the first game in (a busy) two months.
"It was Rafinha's first game in two months. He had been out injured so he played with a big heart and the rest of the players played at a good level."
