Martin Demichelis feels he has another year of top-level football in him and is hoping to land a new deal at Manchester City.
The experienced Argentina international, who will turn 34 in October, penned a two-year contract upon his arrival at the Etihad Stadium.
That agreement is due to expire next summer and no extension has been put in place as yet.
Demichelis grew into his centre-half role last season as City took the Premier League title and has been an ever-present in the current campaign.
He sees no reason why he cannot continue to be a regular in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans and hopes to sit down at some point and thrash out fresh terms in the near future.
Demichelis said in the Manchester Evening News: “I am playing every game, every two to three days, so I am just enjoying it and taking it game by game.
“I would be happy to stay this year and then one more year because I think I will still have the quality to play at this level.
“I would like to stay one more year because I think I can play at this level.”
Demichelis’ next opportunity to prove his worth is likely to come against former employers Bayern Munich on Wednesday, with the South American looking forward to locking horns with a familiar foe in UEFA Champions League competition.
He added: “The aim of this club is to improve year after year, and the next big step is to get out of the group stage and take it from there – and we have the quality to do it.
“It will be extremely emotional for me because Bayern were the club that gave me the chance to come to Europe and play, and I was there for seven-and-a-half years.
“I am looking forward to going back to the stadium and playing against old team-mates.”
