Former England goalkeeper David Seaman believes Joe Hart has been harshly treated by Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Hart has come under criticism this season after making a number of uncharacteristic mistakes, leading to Pellegrini's decision to drop him in favour of Costel Pantilimon.
The Romania international has impressed in the last four matches he has played and the onus is on Hart to dislodge him from the starting XI.
Hart has not featured for City since a farcical blunder between himself and defender Matija Nastasic allowed Fernando Torres to score a last-minute winner for Chelsea as they beat City 2-1 on 27th October.
But Seaman has leapt to the 26-year-old's defence, insisting Pellegrini should have offered his public backing to Hart in the same way England head coach Roy Hodgson has.
"Hart is brilliant. I was surprised he was dropped by City," Seaman told TalkSPORT.
"He's a quality goalkeeper and is playing big pressure games every week and you can't say that about the other goalkeepers.
"He's by far our best keeper and I was glad Roy (Hodgson) came out and backed him.
"That's what you want as a goalkeeper. It's a shame his own (club) manager hasn't backed him as well."
