City assistant believes problems of past are now behind them

Manchester City assistant manager David Platt claims Carlos Tevez has worked all summer and is back to his best. Tevez returned to help City win the Premier League title last season after putting a very public and long-running spat with manager Roberto Mancini behind him. Although he scored four goals from his first two starts upon his comeback in the spring, there were signs the Argentina international was not fully fit in the run-in. But the hours of work in pre-season were rewarded with a fine goal against Chelsea in the FA Community Shield on Sunday and Platt believes Tevez could be set for a big role. "Carlos has worked ever so hard in pre-season," said Platt.

Hard work

"Since he has come back in he has really attacked his work and not had one day off. His goal was one of those you can remember him doing two years ago. "He ducks inside, he goes away from people. That's what he's been missing and it was there again. "A lot was said and done last year. Everybody has got to hold their hands up and say mistakes were made. "But what do you do? Carlos has still got two years left on his contract. He is a very good player and he is playing for Manchester City. "It is not a case of putting water under the bridge, it is a case of saying we are all batting on the same wicket here and we go forward together."
