Manchester City could be in a position to condemn Wolves to relegation on Sunday but Joleon Lescott admits it would be a sad day for him to see his former club go down.
Wolves have struggled all season and results have gone from bad to worse since Terry Connor was appointed manager, leaving them on the brink of a return to the Championship.
Relegation could be confirmed this weekend and Lescott concedes that he will be heartbroken if they do slip through the Premier League trapdoor.
The defender spent six years at Molineux at the start of his career, helping the club win promotion in 2003, and says he still regards Connor as the finest coach he has worked with.

"Relegating Wolves would be very disappointing. It's my childhood club and I have a lot of friends there," said Lescott, who left Wolves for Everton in 2006 before making the move to Man City three years later.
"Terry Connor is also one of the most influential people on my career. To this day, I would say he is probably the best coach I have worked with.
"People may say I have worked with some bigger names but I would still say Terry is the best. He groomed me as a youngster and corrected my mistakes. He helped me learn from them.
"Even when I had left Wolves, he would speak to me on the phone after watching me in games and tell me what I had done wrong and what I had done right."
