Tevez stays put at City

Carlos Tevez's future has been the subject of constant speculation but he was still a Man City player when the transfer window shut.

Deal fails to materialise for estranged striker

Carlos Tevez's future has been the subject of constant speculation in recent weeks but the striker was still a Manchester City player when the transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday night. Transfer talk has surrounded the estranged Argentinian since his fall out at City, with a host of clubs thought to be chasing him. However, his advisor informed Sky Sports on deadline day he would not be going anywhere in January and that was confirmed when the window closed and a deal had not materialised. AC Milan had appeared close to capturing the Argentinian but the Serie A giants failed to negotiate a deal with City. Their Italian rivals Inter and French giants Paris St Germain were among the other European heavyweights interested, but no deal was forthcoming. When asked about the situation following City's defeat at Everton, manager Roberto Mancini said: "I don't know in this moment." He added: "Tevez is always a Manchester City player. I don't know what his condition is at this moment."

Fall-out

Tevez's fall-out at City stems from their UEFA Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich back in September, when he failed to warm-up and was subsequently disciplined by the club. The 27-year-old has not featured for City since and is currently in Argentina, where he has resided for over two months. Questioned if Tevez would still have to apologise for his behaviour before being reintegrated into the City squad, Mancini said: "I don't know at this moment. I am very disappointed for my mistake in this game (against Everton)." Tevez could still potentially join a club in Russia or South America, where clubs work to different transfer guidelines.
