Spaniard hopes to establish Man City as a top European club

David Silva believes Manchester City's winning mentality means they should be looking to win the Champions League. Roberto Mancini's side host European giants Bayern Munich on Wednesday, needing to win while hoping that Napoli fail to do the same against Villarreal. If both permutations go their way, they will qualify for the knockout stages in Europe's most prestigious club competition for the first time in their history. They have only managed to win two games out of the five they have played in the competition; failing to replicate their Premier League form that has seen them surge to the top of the table. Silva, who has made 20 appearances this season, is determined to help Manchester City become a top European club as soon as possible.

Aim

He told UEFA's official website: "The UEFA Champions League is certainly where we want to be and the level we have been aiming for. "Last season was a key season for us. We won our first trophy for 35 years and qualified for the Champions League, claiming a place among the best teams in Europe. "We're up there with the elite now and this is enabling us to attract winners. These players know how to win, must win and accept nothing else. "Winners don't believe in fate like others do. They simply cannot accept defeat. "We need to improve upon what we've achieved already and keep progressing as a team. "Of course, we've got to do well in the Champions League and we should aim to win it. Why not? I don't think that is out of the question."
