Bulgarian set for Italy return

Parma have confirmed they are in talks with Manchester City over a possible deal for Valeri Bojinov. The Bulgarian striker has been plagued by injury following his move to Eastlands in 2007. He has suffered serious knee and Achilles injuries which have limited him to just 11 appearances. Now, following the arrivals of Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez, Bojinov is surplus to Mark Hughes' requirements and will be allowed to leave. Bojinov moved to Italy aged just 12 and enjoyed huge success in Serie A with Lecce, Fiorentina and Juventus. He is still highly regarded in Italian football and is now set to move back, with Parma leading the race after they confirmed their interest. However, other clubs, including Lazio, are also thought to be keen. "Of course we need to replace [Cristiano] Lucarelli after his Livorno move and we are looking at what is on the market," said Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi. "Champions like Bojinov earn exorbitant wages and have been paid a great deal, even if this player has the added bonus of being very young, as he was born in 1986. "We're trying to set up talks for Bojinov, but it is premature to talk about this now. "We are happy with our transfer policy so far and I think we can make the most of many youngsters who want to prove themselves." Bojinov's agent Gerry Palomba confirmed a move to Italy was a logical step. "If City should be ready to release Valeri on loan, as I know they categorically ruled out a permanent sale, then the most logical solution would be Italy," confessed Palomba. "He has received offers from Spain and Germany, but Valeri feels that he is Italian and would have no problems settling in."
