Beiersdorfer claims bid has been lodged for midfielder

Hamburg have claimed that Manchester City are interested in signing Nigel de Jong and have lodged a bid for his services. City have already made an offer for AC Milan forward Kaka as they look to bolster their squad during the transfer window. They are pursuing a number of other targets and have contacted Hamburg with regard to De Jong, according to the German club's director of football Dietmar Beiersdorfer. Beiersdorfer announced only this week that De Jong had verbally agreed a new deal with Hamburg. The proposed extension would have kept the midfielder at the club until 2011 but City have now made a move to sign him. Beiersdorfer explained: "We are in touch with City after they have officially confirmed their interest in Nigel. "Manchester City has also made a bid to sign him." Beiersdorfer added that Hamburg are considering City's offer.
