Manchester City are reported to have leapt to the front of the queue to sign Lille midfielder Jean II Makoun.
The 25-year-old is attracting strong attention from England with Arsenal and Tottenham both credited with an interest in him.
But now French reports claim City have opened dialogue with Lille about a possible deal for the Cameroon international.
Meanwhile, Patrick Kluivert has been tipped to one day secure a coaching role.
"He has always been very positive towards the club," said coach Claude Puel.
"He gave a lot during training-sessions. Finally, I am very happy with his arrival. We will talk. He could become a good trainer."
