Crewe boss Dario Gradi claims he has not given up of hope of persuading wantaway star Billy Jones to sign a new contract.
The defender-cum-midfielder's present deal expires at the end of the season and he has refused to sign a new one.
Manchester City are understood to be one of a host of clubs monitoring his situation and Gradi concedes he will have to listen to offers for the 19-year-old in January or risk missing out on a sizeable transfer fee.
However, the Football League's longest-serving manager insists he continues to hold out some hope of convincing the teenager to stay on at Gresty Road.
"We are still hoping that Billy will change his mind and believe that it is in his best interests to stay with us," Gradi told the Alex's official website.
"We are disappointed with the decision he seems to have made but there is nothing more we can really do.
"We have made him a very good offer and as far as I know, he has not replied to that.
"We have received no bids for him. I don't know what will happen but it will be interesting to see when the transfer window reopens."
