Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce expects Bradley Wright-Phillips to step out from his brother's shadow next season.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has recently completed a £21 million move to Chelsea but his brother, Bradley, remains in Manchester and is eager to make the breakthrough next term.

The promising striker was on the periphery of first team action last season, largely under Kevin Keegan's tenure, but Stuart Pearce has indicated that he will place a reliance on youth.

Pearce believes Wright-Phillips can make a real impact next season - backing the player to win regular first team football at Eastlands.

''Bradley was around the first team at the end of last season, but he has not actually started a game yet,'' said Pearce.

''He needs the confidence of being told he is making his first start.

''That could be something that allows him to grow.

''Bradley is a mature lad and he knows what the situation is.''
