The Dutch midfielder's current deal at Eastlands expires in the summer and he was longing to earn a fresh contract.
However, it is thought that new boss Stuart Pearce is only willing to offer the 35-year-old a short-term deal.
Bosvelt wants a more secure future and is thought to have already settled on a possible two-year deal with Heerenveen, with a medical set for next week.
The former Feyenoord man will pen an initial 12-month contract with a further year to be added on at the end of next season should both parties agree.
Heerenveen are expected to lose the services of Polish midfielder Arek Radomski in the summer and see Bosvelt as the perfect replacement.
Feyenoord boss Ruud Gullit is thought to have made a late bid to lure Bosvelt back to his former club, but the experienced Dutchman has already give his word to Heerenveen.
