Caen keeper Steeve Elana is being tipped to sign a new contract despite reports of interest from Manchester City.
The 24-year-old has returned to full fitness after two months out injured and has been linked with a move to The City of Manchester Stadium.
There are suggestions that City have contacted the player's agent but Caen want to keep Elana and have been discussing a fresh deal.
The extension will be for a further three years with a wage increase factored in as reward for his efforts.
Once the deal is signed, the former Marseille shot-stopper will be under contract until 2008.
City have plenty of goalkeepers on their books; Nicky Weaver, Ronald Waterreus, Geert De Vlieger and Kasper Schmeichel among them; but David James is the undisputed number one.
Kevin Keegan may be monitoring potential targets to help provide cover for James next term.
