BOSTON UNITED boss Neil Thompson has approached Premiership side Manchester City with a bid for defender Patrick McCarthy.

The 19-year-old recently completed a three-month loan spell with the York Street club, having impressed The Pilgrims manager with his displays during the 11 matches he played for Boston.

With Thompson clinching the permanent signing of another former loanee in Stuart Balmer from Oldham Athletic last week, he is keen to bring McCarthy back to the Division Three outfit again.

"I want him here and a deal has been put to them so we will just have to wait and see how things develop this week," Thompson told the Lincolnshire Echo.

"Stuart Balmer signed last Friday and I hope to be able to get Paddy back in time for the trip to Oxford (on Saturday) to keep the defence solid."
