UNDER-FIRE Manchester City goalkeeper Nicky Weaver has been dropped for his side's crucial clash with Arsenal at Maine Road on Wednesday night after a poor recent run of form.

The former Mansfield ace, who has been City's first choice for the past three season has paid the price for a couple of major blunders in the past two weeks which have cost his side dearly in their fight for relegation.

The 22-year-old England Under-21 international was blamed for Aston Villa's second goal in the 3-1 defeat two weeks when he failed to control a backpass allowing Dion Dublin to steal the ball off him and score and then he let a soft David Weir effort past him in the 3-1 reverse against Everton last weekend.

Former Stockport goalkeeper Carlo Nash, who joined City in January will takeover from Weaver in goal for his Citizens debut against the FA Cup finalists.

City boss Joe Royle has taken the tough decision to change the side as he feels Weaver needs a rest after the high-profile mistakes, feeling he needs a break after his mistakes against Aston Villa and Everton.

"Nicky will be rested for this one," said Royle. "I have had a chat with Nicky and told him that Carlo Nash will make his debut.

"I just think the time is right to give him a rest and that Carlo is ready. Nicky was upset but this decision was made for him and not against him."
