MANCHESTER CITY have completed the signing of Stockport County goalkeeper Carlo Nash for £100,000.

County boss Andy Kilner informed the 27-year-old that he was no longer required at Edgeley Park and Citizens manager Joe Royle has snapped him up as competition for current number one Nicky Weaver.

Nash, who would have been out of contract in the summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Maine Road club.

Weaver has been criticised recently for a number of blunders, but Royle has insisted that the errors had not prompted him to move for Nash.

"This is not as a result of anything Nicky Weaver has done or not done recently," Royle claimed. "I think as a big club and as a Premiership club we need three goalkeepers.

"At Premier League level you need three goalkeepers. Everton have three keepers, as do Liverpool and so do our neighbours."

Nash`s decision to stay in Greater Manchester will be a blow to Wolves, as new coach David Jones was looking at add him to his Molineux squad.
