Premier League: Liam Rosenior understands Steve Bruce being linked with Newcastle

Hull defender Liam Rosenior insists he is unsurprised manager Steve Bruce has been linked with a move to Newcastle, should Alan Pardew lose his job at St James’ Park.

The two sides face each other in Tyneside on Saturday with pressure growing on Pardew after a poor start to the season that sees them propping up the Premier League table with just two draws from four matches going into the weekend’s matches.

Newcastle-born Bruce has been keen to distance himself from the post, claiming such speculation is "disrespectful" to both Hull and Pardew.

But after Bruce guided Hull to last season’s FA Cup final and a subsequent shortlived spell in the Europa League having overseen promotion from the Championship, Rosenior can understand why he has been linked to the United role.

"It's no surprise to me or anyone around here (to see speculation about Bruce). The manager has been fantastic ever since he walked in the front door," said Rosenior.

"He's been a breath of fresh air through the club. There's only four or five of us left from before he arrived.

“It's been a great journey and he's now bringing in £10m centre-forwards and England internationals. That shows what a great job he's done.

"It's no surprise to me that other teams will be interested in his services."
