Former Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper David James is looking forward to a bright future as Kerala Blasters player-manager following the signing of ex-Newcastle and Sunderland striker Michael Chopra.
James takes charge of the side co-owned by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in the inaugural eight-team league which runs for 10 weeks, kicking off on October 12.
The 44-year-old signed Chopra in the International Player's Draft a fortnight ago and James is confident the former Cardiff, Ipswich and Blackpool frontman will deliver during his Indian adventure.
"The opportunity to get Michael in the Kerala Blasters team is something we hoped for," James told Sky Sports.
"Now that has been achieved, we look forward to fulfilling both the hopes of the Blasters and those of Michael's.
"Michael expressed his desire for a future in India and representing Kerala in the Indian Super League can be a springboard for everyone involved.
“I am excited by the adventure ahead for all of us and Michael has the chance to be a key contributor to a successful season and a prosperous future."
Meanwhile, Brazilian legend Zico has been confirmed as the head coach of the league’s Goan franchise.
The former Flamengo midfielder has previously managed European sides Fenerbahce, Olympiakos and CSKA Moscow.
