Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has agreed a switch to Serie A side Roma, subject to passing a medical.

The 25-year-old has agreed to join the Giallorossi on a season-long loan deal after falling out of favour at St James' Park.

Mbiwa cost the Magpies £8.5million in January 2013, as part of a major influx of players, but has fallen out of favour having only featured in 37 league games in that time.

The France international centre-back revealed his delight at securing a move away from the north-east.

“I am very happy to be at Roma and couldn’t wait," Mbiwa told reporters on arrival.

“I have already spoken to Rudi Garcia on the phone over the last few days.

“I am ready, Forza Roma!”

He is currently undergoing a medical at the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome.
