Jack Colback is optimistic Newcastle United’s summer signings will help Alan Pardew’s side to challenge in the higher echelons of the Premier League table.
Midfielder Colback is one of seven new signings to arrive at St James’ Park so far this summer after joining from local rivals Sunderland on a free transfer.
Pardew has also added Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez, Remy Cabella, Daryl Janmaat, Emmanuel Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra to his squad in an attempt to build on Newcastle’s 10th-placed finish from last season.
Colback believes another top-10 placing is the minimum target for this season and he has been encouraged by his fellow new arrivals at the club.
"It's looking good," said Colback. "This is a club looking to go places.

"We've got to be looking at a minimum top-10 finish and then push on to get around the Tottenhams and Evertons and be able to compete against the top four or five teams.
"The signings the manager has brought in, coupled with the players already here, will give us the chance to do that."
The 24-year-old is also looking forward to the prospect of trying to get the Newcastle fans on his side following his move from Sunderland, where he started his career.
He added: "There might be a bit more pressure [due to] the fact I've come from Sunderland.
"I've got to try to turn the fans' heads at Newcastle and win them over. It's something I'm relishing."
