Newcastle keen to land FC Twente defender

Sky Sports understands Newcastle have tabled a 4million euros (£3.15million) offer for FC Twente defender Douglas. Magpies manager Alan Pardew had been hoping to complete a double swoop on the Eredivisie club but looks to have missed out on Luuk de Jong, with the striker seemingly bound for Borussia Monchengladbach. However, the North East club remain committed to their interest in Douglas and have now made an offer in a bid to secure his services. The Brazilian admitted last month that he was looking to move on to pastures new and that he was keen to test himself in a tougher league than Holland. Chelsea and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, but the Magpies are seemingly at the head of the queue. Newcastle dispatched a delegation of managing director Derek Llambias and secretary Lee Charnley to Holland in early July to open discussions. And the prospective transfer has now moved on a stage with the Magpies waiting to hear if their opening bid will be accepted by Steve McClaren's side.
