Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux should add to Alan Pardew's options after fully recovering from injuries

Alan Pardew wants Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux to step up for Newcastle United next season. The French pair endured injury-hit campaigns in 2011/12, with Obertan missing much of the latter stages due to toe and muscle problems. Marveaux was absent for six months with a combination of hip and groin injuries, his only appearance after November coming in a 45-minute cameo at Everton on the last day of the season. In their absence the Magpies enjoyed an excellent season, finishing fifth in the Premier League, and Newcastle boss Pardew wants the midfielders to push him for selection now that their fitness problems are over. "This is going to be a different year, you have to remember that," he told the Newcastle Chronicle. "Different players will come in and out of form - it won't just be about those who done well last year. I'm expecting Gabby Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux to be back and raring to go. "They are two players that can have big seasons for us next year." Pardew also wants two of the younger members of his squad to add to his options. He said: "There's Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson as well. "It's a year further down the line for them and they'll get their chances to do well for us. It's a chance to see how they develop."
