Alan Pardew was full of praise for his Newcastle side after seeing them pick up a sixth straight win and put down a marker to their top-four rivals.
A 3-0 victory over Stoke on Saturday saw the Magpies maintain their recent fine form and keep themselves in the hunt for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Yohan Cabaye, with two, and Papiss Cisse got the goals against the Potters, but Newcastle are a side brimming with confidence and playing at their peak.
Pardew admits as much and considers them to be serious contenders for a place at European football's top table.
"We have got momentum and that's a dangerous tool to have in your locker," he said.
"We are playing with confidence and we have got ourselves in a fantastic position, perhaps even better than we thought we might do. Confidence is there for everyone to see.
"Everyone is contributing, this isn't about one player or one person, it's a combination of a lot of things that have gone on at this football club - from Mike Ashley down. Everybody deserves the credit they are getting.
"Having said that, there are still four games to go and they are always the most important.
"The closer you get to the end, to win six on the trot is truly outstanding by the players and they will get a few plaudits this week."
Newcastle are hoping the best is yet to come in 2011/12, but they can already claim to have hit a number of notable targets this term.
Pardew added: "I'm pretty sure that Liverpool can't catch us and to finish above them, regardless of their cup exploits, is outstanding.
"Whatever we do now, it's been an outstanding season but we haven't lost sight of the fact that there is a chance for us to do something really special."
