Alan Pardew admitted he 'could not have asked for anything more' from Newcastle in terms of performance following their goalless draw with Swansea.
The Magpies carved out a number of chances to open the scoring in the first half of Saturday's game at St James' Park, but were twice denied by the woodwork and Michel Vorm also saved well from Demba Ba.
Swansea improved after the interval and Pardew was impressed by the Welsh side's defensive organisation, but still felt Newcastle would have won comfortably if they had managed to break the deadlock.
And while the result extended his side's winless run to five Premier League games, Pardew thought there were a number of encouraging signs.
"They kept the ball better in the second than they did in the first, because we absolutely bossed that period," he told Sky Sports.
Patient
"If we had got a goal I think we would have gone on to win with a bit to spare, but they did brilliantly.
"They got a lot of bodies behind and worked hard, but I couldn't have asked for anything more from my boys.
"We did everything but score. The movement was good, we asked questions with balls into the box, we were direct when we needed to be and patient when we needed to be.
"We just couldn't get the breakthrough."
