Erik Pieters: PSV Eindhoven will not be selling the Newcastle United target in the January transfer window

PSV Eindhoven have insisted Newcastle United target Erik Pieters will not be sold during the January transfer window.

Pieters was wanted by the Magpies in the summer to fill the left-back slot which had been vacated by Jose Enrique's move to Liverpool.

The Netherlands international had been expecting to complete a switch to St James' Park, but no deal was finalised before the August deadline.

Reports have claimed that Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to sign either Pieters or AC Milan defender Taye Taiwo when the transfer window reopens.

Pieters is currently sidelined after suffering a broken metatarsal in October and he is not expected to return to action until February.

And PSV's sporting director Marcel Brands has warned that Newcastle would be wasting their time if they decided to make a fresh approach to take Pieters to the Premier League.

"We won't sell in the winter, so I don't expect anything to happen," Brands told Goal.com.

"Pieters will be fit again in February and we look forward to having him back playing for us.

"We're not looking to sell any players at all because we're in the race for the title."
