Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Newcastle United's veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper on a month's loan.
Harper has not made an appearance for Newcastle this season after manager Alan Pardew opted to go with Tim Krul as his first-choice keeper.
The 36-year-old was on the bench for Saturday's victory over Wigan Athletic, but has been alternating back-up duties with summer signing Rob Elliot this term.
He has now taken up the opportunity to play some first-team football after agreeing to spend the next month with Championship side Brighton.
"Harps is keen to play," said Pardew in the Evening Chronicle. "It is a real coup for Brighton.
"Steve has been unfortunate to have Tim come through in the way he has.
"He is a top young keeper and will play at the top for years to come."
Harper is expected to make his debut for Brighton in Monday's game against West Ham United at the AMEX Stadium.
