Newcastle United's transfer-listed defender Steven Taylor remains happy to continue negotiations over a new contract.
The Magpies announced on Wednesday they are prepared to consider offers for the former England Under-21 centre-back after lengthy discussions over a new deal failed to reach a positive conclusion.
Taylor, who revealed he was stunned by the club's decision to put him on the market, has had a statement released on his behalf saying he is keen to resolve the situation.
The statement read: "Figures released to the media do not accurately reflect the position of either Steven or his agent.
"Both (Taylor and the club) remain happy to continue negotiations over a new and extended Newcastle United contract.
"Steven was disappointed and surprised to hear through third parties that the club had decided to transfer list him.
"He has always given 100% to the club and will continue to do so given the opportunity."
Taylor's existing contract is due to expire at the end of the season and reports have claimed that Newcastle have offered £40,000-a-week, but Taylor is holding out for a £60,000 deal.
