West Brom defender desperate for first-team football

Abdoulaye Meite is close to joining either Newcastle or Hull City on a year-long loan from West Brom, according to reports in the Ivory Coast. The defender is keen to play first-team football ahead of the World Cup next summer after losing his place in the Ivory Coast starting XI recently. The 28-year-old was expected to join the Tigers in the summer after Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo made it clear the centre-half was not in his plans, but a deal failed to materialise. Meite has made just two appearances this term, both coming in the Carling Cup, and admits that he expects to be moving on in the near future. "There are contacts but lets wait and see what will happen," he told Skysports.com. "I can't say anything yet. I need to play if I want to be involved in the World Cup."
