Magpies midfielder dividing his focus between club and country

Newcastle midfielder Geremi is hoping the 2008/09 campaign will not end with major disappointment. The African ace is currently away on international duty with Cameroon, with 2010 World Cup qualifiers offering a welcome respite from the rigours of a Premier League basement battle. The Magpies have struggled for consistency all season and are now paying the price for their earlier failings. With only eight games remaining the North East outfit find themselves staring relegation face. Geremi remains optimistic regarding the club's chances of securing survival, but admits helping his country to take another positive step on the road to South Africa remains his priority at present. "It is difficult to divide your attention," he told Football365.co.za. "One is half thinking about how to help Cameroon qualify for the World Cup and also thinking about helping my club avoid relegation. "But there is only so much one can do. So I have to concentrate on the national team assignment to make sure we get victory so when I return back we can continue to fight to help the club avoid relegation."
