Midfielder feels coaching pair can keep Newcastle up

Nicky Butt says coaching duo Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood have the respect of the Newcastle United squad. Hughton and Calderwood have picked up the mantle at St James' Park after manager Joe Kinnear underwent a heart bypass operation. Kinnear is likely to be absent for eight weeks, prompting the Magpies to put Hughton and Calderwood in control of first-team affairs. The pair will lead Newcastle into battle in the fight against relegation and vice-captain Butt is putting his faith in the coaches.

Experienced

"Chris and Colin work very hard together and I'm sure they will take to the challenge very well," Butt told the club's official website. "We're sad about what has happened to Joe. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he comes back soon. "But we are where we are and we have two very good coaches and experienced men behind us. "They are more than capable of doing a job and they have the respect of all the lads. "It's a difficult situation to be in, but we need to stick together as a group."
