Obafemi Martins has hailed Newcastle's 'fantastic result' against Manchester United, but wanted more from their trip to Old Trafford.
The Magpies held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, and the Nigerian striker believes they could have defeated the reigning Premier League champions.
Martins gave Kevin Keegn's men the lead after 22 minutes at Old Trafford, only to see Darren Fletcher level for the Red Devils two minutes later.
"This was a fantastic result," he told the Evening Chronicle.
"Even though we haven't won, we have picked up a result that many teams would like at Old Trafford.
"We tried our best to win this game and are disappointed not to, but we will take a point."
Martins was delighted to be back among the goals so early in the season, especially as injuries restricted him to just 10 last term.
"I'm happy to get my first goal of the season in my first game," he said.
"It was important for me, but more so for the team.
"We wanted to get off to a good start and this has helped do that."
The African ace also refused to dwell on the fact that United's equaliser came about while influential centre-half Steven Taylor was off the field receiving treatment.
"It was unfortunate for us," Martins added. "But that's football sometimes.
"We worked very hard during the rest of the game and we have picked up a big result."
