Potters continue to chase new faces

Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes is hoping to bring 'one or two' new faces in before the season starts. The Potters are currently preparing for their first taste of life in the Premier League and are keen to piece together a squad capable of prolonging their stay in the top flight. A whole host of names have been linked with the club over the summer, but fresh faces have been thin on the ground. Dave Kitson, Seyi Olofinjana and Thomas Sorensen have all arrived, but further numbers are needed if Tony Pulis' men are to avoid slipping back into the Championship at the first time of asking. Newcastle's Abdoulaye Faye is one potential target, and Scholes admits that the Senagalese defender features high on Pulis' wish list.

Imminent

"Abdoulaye Faye is a player we have been linked with in the last few days, possibly even a week or two," the chief executive told Sky Sports News. "Yes, he's a player that Tony's interested in and along with one or two other players we will be keen on doing something. "We're in talks at the moment with one or two and let's hope that we're successful in clinching one or two of those deals, possibly even before the weekend. "I'd like to think that one or two are imminent."

Scholes also confirmed that Charlton midfielder Amdy Faye is another option the club continues to pursue. "Amdy Faye is another that Tony has made no secret of his interest in," he added. "Amdy has actually been up and talked to us in the last few weeks so he's another one who may be, if Tony says he's one he wants, we can make a move for."
