Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has urged striker Michael Owen to sign a new contract at St James' Park.
Taylor recently ended speculation over his own future by putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal in the North East.
England international Owen is still to commit his future to Kevin Keegan's side and would become a free agent next summer.
Taylor knows how crucial the prolific forward is to the Toon Army's hopes of ending their lengthy wait for silverware and has urged him to extend his stay.
He told The Sun: "Michael is as important as Alan Shearer was for Newcastle. It's vital he stays.
"Does he want to stay? That is something for Michael to answer, but he knows how much we value him.
"The man is a goal machine."
