Newcastle defender David Rozehnal has joined Lazio on loan for the rest of the season.

Magpies stopper off to Italy on loan

Newcastle United defender David Rozehnal has signed for Lazio on loan for the rest of the season. The Czech Republic international joined the Magpies in a £2.9million transfer from Paris Saint Germain last summer. He has made 21 appearances in the Premier League, but is on his way to Serie A with a view to a permanent move. Rozehnal has been playing in midfield since Kevin Keegan returned as manager, and his agent Pavel Zika admits the 27-year-old wants to revert to a central defensive position. "David Rozehnal joined Newcastle only last summer, but has not been playing in his position in defence," Zika told Pravo. "The Lazio offer came shortly before the transfer deadline, but we managed to finish the deal."

Excellent

Lazio president Claudio Lotito also confirmed that Rozehnal is on his way to the Stadio Olimpico. "We have signed Rozehnal from Lazio despite problems in communicating by fax," the Lotito told Sky Sport Italia. "The confirmation was lacking for a while, but in the end everything went well and we have an excellent new defender who will strengthen the squad and increase the competition for places at the club."
