Obafemi Martins believes new Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is 'the right man for the job'.
While the North East has been taken over by Keegan-mania over the last week, Martins has been a spectator from afar as he is away at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
That has not, though, stopped him from voicing his opinion on what he perceives to be a shrewd appointment on Newcastle's part.
"Keegan knows the Premier League well so I think he is the right man for the job," the Nigerian told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
"I have heard about the option of Alan Shearer returning, but the players do not have a say on this. It is up to the board. I just want what is best for the club.
"I believe Newcastle have the players to fight for a place in the Uefa Cup and not worry about relegation."
