Charles N'Zogbia believes Newcastle are capable of establishing themselves as UEFA Champions League regulars within the next few seasons.
The Frenchman has established himself as Sam Allardyce's first-choice left-back at St James' Park and last week committed himself to the North East club by signing a new five-year deal.
In recent years Newcastle have underachieved but N'Zogbia feels they are heading in the right direction under Allardyce's regime.
"We have made a good start to this season and I think we have to aim for a top-six finish," he told the club's official website.
"After that why not the Champions League?
"This is a big club with great fans and a fantastic stadium and we can challenge at the top of the table.
"We have a good, big strong squad and there will be a lot of competition for places.
"Even in training I think you'll see a lot of competitiveness and that is what you need."
