Shay Given has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the Euro 2008 qualification double-header against Slovakia and Czech Republic.
The Newcastle goalkeeper, who is yet to feature for the Magpies this season because of a groin injury, is expected to be fit for the clash in Bratislava on 8th September and the trip to Prague four days later.
Republic boss Steve Staunton said: "Shay has been training since last Monday and doing very well.
"He was on the bench against Middlesbrough on Sunday, so I don't expect any problems, but you never know.
"His experience speaks volumes, and Shay will have no problems regardless if he's played a game or not."
Everton midfielder Lee Carsley returns after being left out for the recent 4-0 friendly victory in Denmark, but Newcastle right-back Stephen Carr is out with a hamstring injury.
One new addition to the squad is defender Kevin Foley, who joined Wolves from Luton during the summer.
