Steven Taylor believes Sam Allardyce has assembled the best Newcastle United squad in a decade.
Allardyce has sought to quickly make his mark at St James' Park and has brought in several new players over the summer.
The Magpies have picked up five points from their opening three games of the season and Taylor feels the new boss has the club heading in the right direction.
"We have a great squad now," said Taylor in the Daily Star. "It's probably the best we've had here since the Keegan days.
"There's something about this squad that is going to take this club forward. I really believe that."
Not about money
As Allardyce looks to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window, Taylor is backing the manager's judgement in the market.
He added: "We have players that really want to play for Newcastle and it's not all about money.
"In the recent past, people have said players were paid too much, but these ones are more concerned with working hard for each other.
"The last thing we want is the manager signing players for the sake of it.
"It has happened before where there have been signings just to make up the numbers. It won't happen now."
